Yesterday, we talked about how our dreams can point to our destiny.
Today- we’re talking twists of fate. This is, perhaps, the most important marker.
My story
Ten years ago, I was a product manager in corporate America. I had a very important but very boring software product. I was technical and nerdy.
One day, one of my sales reps stopped by my office. He was having a problem with his wife. He admitted to cheating on her. He wasn’t sure why he did it or what to do now.
Then, the next day, a software consultant stopped by. He felt like he was only happy when he was traveling, and was really worried that he wouldn’t ever find someone to settle down with.
Then an hour later, a sales manager cried her eyes out, telling me how her dad abandoned her,and how hard it was for her to commit to a relationship.
These people didn’t know me well. They didn’t know each other. I didn’t have a reputation as someone who knew anything besides software configuration management.
Each stuck their head in my office, and asked, “Got a minute?”, and then they’d be in my office pouring out their secrets, and asking what to do.
It was really, really weird.
The Weirdest Part
The weirdest part? I knew what to say. I KNEW what to tell them. I knew how to get them to a better place.
This phase lasted for about 3 weeks, until I had to go to Europe, and then everything went back to normal. I was a product manager again.
Why?
I think I needed a taste of what I was really about. I was a really good product manager. The world didn’t need me to a be a product manager. It needs me to be an intuitive guidance counselor and intuition teacher.
